Bigu Nunnery, Nepal

The epicenter of the May 2015 Nepal earthquake was located in Bigu. Most of the houses in the Bigu village have been flattened in the earthquake and the villagers are cut off from road access due to massive landslides in the region.

Bigu Gompa is one of the oldest nunneries in Nepal, located on the remote hill top in Dolakha District.  The earthquake destroyed all the buildings at the nunnery and the nuns had to evacuate and take up temporary shelter in Kathmandu.  In addition, there were no accessible healthcare facility as all roads were blocked due to earthquake destruction.

Beneficiaries of the project. 
84 Nuns rescued from Bigu Nunnery, Dolakha district and shifted from their temporary shelter of Boudha to Narayansthan (behind Budhanilkantha school) at Everest Carpet factory with the facilities of prefab shelters were examined by our Sorig Doctor, Dr. Tenjin Dharke Gurung. 

The eldest patient was of 84 years of age and youngest was of 4 years of age. 30 patients had diarrhoea, stomach problem and low blood pressure, 20 patients had cough and cold and sinus, allergy, 20 patients had high blood pressure, depression, joint pain and 15 patients had headache, gastric and were very weak.
